Altering Knit and Crochet Patterns Virtual Workshop March 2
It can be hard to find just the right knitting or crochet pattern to fit your yarn, body, and fashion sense. We will go through common alterations for size, gauge, and style. This class will be useful for anyone who knits or crochets garments or accessories. Techniques will include:
- changing patterns from working flat to in the round
- changing an entire pattern for a different stitch and/or row gauge
- adding or customizing waist shaping
- altering shoulder and neckline shaping, for example adjusting a set in armhole for a wider shoulder, or changing from a crew neck to a V neck
- two methods to change the size of the entire pattern
This workshop will take place on Zoom and registered students will receive the link two days in advance. Students will receive a handout as well as the slides shown in class and will have many opportunities to ask questions during the lecture-style workshop. The workshop will not be recorded and students do not have permission to record it themselves.
A Note on Pricing: There is a sliding scale for low-income makers.
Materials Needed: This is a lecture style class so you don't need to have any tools and you are welcome to knit or crochet while watching. Optionally you can bring 1-2 patterns you're interested in altering for us to discuss. You may want to print out the handout that will be emailed to you two days in advance and/or have note-taking supplies and a calculator on hand.
Teacher Background: I have worked in the yarn industry since 2002, as a yarn shop employee and later manager, teacher, pattern designer, and event host. My path to designing patterns began with altering patterns that I was using, and I have helped many people alter patterns.
Cancellation Policy: If the organizer cancels for any reason, students will be offered a choice of rescheduling or receiving a full refund. If a student cancels before receiving the class handout (two days in advance) they will receive an 80% refund.
