The slipped and cabled stitches in this pattern form a tessellated design of pointed ovals which smartly nestle together. The stitch pattern is relatively simple and easy to follow, but makes the hat an impressive gift. Instructions are given for working cables both with and without a cable needle.

This is an advanced beginner knitting project and a good introduction to cables. You should already know how to cast on, knit, and purl.

Kit includes one skein of Sincere Sheep Bannock naturally dyed U.S. grown Targhee wool yarn (280 yards) and the Bas Relief Hat and Bas Relief Mitts patterns in both printed format and PDF download code. All items are packaged in a bag as shown, with the pattern folded to fit inside the bag.

These items are not included, but will be needed to complete the project: US 6 (4mm) and US 8 (5mm) 16″ circular needles or size needed to obtain gauge and 2 sizes smaller, US 6 (4mm) and 8 (5mm) double-pointed needles or size needed to obtain gauge and two sizes smaller, stitch markers, yarn needle. Optional: cable needle.
