Knit the Brioche Stitch Workshop in Hayward March 8
Create lofty, textured fabric using Brioche Stitch, which resembles ribbing but with much more depth and many more possibilities. We'll knit a swatch (or start a scarf) in basic Brioche Stitch and start a cowl in two-color Brioche for a richly textured and reversible fabric.
This workshop will take place at Aranea Craft Studio, 943 C Street in Hayward, CA.
Prerequisites: This is an intermediate level class and students should be comfortable with casting on, knitting, purling, and working in the round.
A Note on Pricing: There is a sliding scale for low-income makers, on the honor system. We recommend ages 12+ for group classes.
Materials Needed: 30(300) yards smooth worsted or aran weight yarn for swatch(scarf), 100 yards smooth worsted or aran weight yarn in each of two highly contrasting colors for cowl, 16” circular knitting needles AND another set of straight or circular needles in size 6-9 US (1-2 sizes smaller than that recommended for your yarn), stitch marker.
Homework: with darker color loosely cast on 70 stitches on 16" circular needles, place a marker and join into the round, and work four rounds garter stitch: [purl 1 round, knit 1 round] twice.
Teacher Background: I have worked in the yarn industry since 2002, as a yarn shop employee and later manager, teacher, pattern designer, and event host. I have taught hundreds of people how to crochet and refined the process to make it easier for my students.
Cancellation Policy: If the organizer cancels for any reason, students will be offered a choice of transferring to another workshop or receiving a full refund. If a student cancels with at least 72 hours notice, they can choose to receive an 80% refund or transfer to another class.
